The Breed
General:
Chow Collies are about the size of a Border Collie, depending on which side of the family it gets it from. Same with the head. One puppy can have a flat head with a long muzzle and the other could have a more rounded head with a short muzzle but it doesn't affect the dogs one bit. Their eyes are usually dark brown to a dark hazel in color, but if you play around with the parents, they might get different color eyes. Their ears can either hang or be erect, depending on the parents. Their tails are long and sometimes curled. They range in different colors and usually carry most of the color their parents had (if the dad was black and white and the mom was tan/brown, the puppies will carry these colors but not all). The coat can either be medium or heavy but should not get as thick as a chow's.
Temperament:
They are extremely well-mannered dogs if trained right. Out of the two litters born, I have noted that they all are very obedient and love to please. Also, they love run so a large open space is permitted. These dogs are great family dogs. They seem to know not to snap at kids and will not, whatever the case. But, even some of the best dogs have some of their bad spots. They do have a tendency to get things such as; rugs, towels, clothes, ect., and destroy them but not always. They don't really stick to one human if not bonded with enough. They will stray to find someone with more time to play with them.
Living Conditions:
These dogs live well outside but can also be turned into great house dogs. Due to their, sometimes, thick coat, they do not freeze easily but if it is surprisingly cold, a sweater/blanket will probably be needed.
Exercise:
As long as these dogs are taken for a walk everyday or let out to run, they will be satisfied. Also, daily play will also count as exercise if they are moving their legs. They love to run and will help out-of-shape people get back in shape.
Grooming:
Due to their coat size, these dogs need to be brushed/combed regularly. Both, medium- and heavy-coats, should be bathe atleast once a month but twice a month should be no problem. Also, you should check the ears regularly, especially if they are outside dogs. They tend to shed quite heavy.
